Demonstration of a zero-waste process of recycling the lenses of cathode tubes containing lead
Despite flat screens becoming very widespread a few years ago, large quantities of used cathode tubes are still collected each year in Europe. Up until a short time ago, the lens of the cone containing lead could be incorporated into concrete blocks. This use was recently banned owing to the risk of the lead propagating into the environment. The aim of the project is to demonstrate the technical-economic feasibility of a recycling process involving lead glass developed at laboratory level by the CTP. The principal characteristic of this process is that it leads to the recovery of the entirety of the lead content for the manufacture of the metal.
